The House of Hope is coming to Hartsville

Hartsville has a combination of poverty and opportunity. On one hand, there is a 23.5% poverty rate, and on the other hand, there are opportunities for higher education through Coker University and Florence Darlington Tech. In addition, Hartsville is home to Sonoco, the only Fortune 500 company headquartered in South Carolina.

Those struggling with poverty may be directed to find the opportunities in Hartsville for personal growth and changed lives. House of Hope wants to be the bridge for those struggling with poverty and the possibilities available in Hartsville.

This local community understands that now is the time to invest in their greatest treasure, the people, especially those that are underserved. The House of Hope is excited to partner with the Hartsville business community, churches, non-profits, and the Hartsville Interfaith Ministries for the next step in continuing to make Hartsville the premier community for serving God and His people.

The House of Hope of the Pee Dee is expanding its service offerings with a hub of care to serve Hartsvillians.
  • 7000 square foot center of care

  • Case Managers on-site all week

  • Partner non-profits on-site

  • Bus stop out front

  • Emergency Shelter during dangerous weather and disasters.

  • Temporary housing for up to 16 men and up to 24 women and children

  • Connections to long-term residential care and counseling in Florence facilitites.

What will be in the facility?

As a hub of care for everyone, the House of Hope will have a general manager and several case managers available each weekday to meet with people who are facing trouble. Also up front will be an office for Hartsville Interfaith Ministries, an independent crisis ministry and food bank that will operate side-by-side with House of Hope. We also hope to host resources from other local non-profits so that we can connect everyone with the help they need.

During bad weather or another emergency, the back of the building will open to become an emergency shelter. The shelter will consist of two living wings, one for men and one for women and children. The men's side will be able to host up to 16 men in bunk beds. The women's and children's side will be able to care for up to 24 individuals.

Behind that will be a catering kitchen where we can serve meals donated to us or made in our commercial kitchen in Florence.

When will it open?

We hope to open in the second half of 2026.

We got a huge head start when a donor helped us secure a location at the beginning of this journey. We still have a long way to go, though.

We need to raise a total of 1.7 million more dollars to renovate the building and cover our first two years of operating costs, after which time we will have a support system in place to ensure we can fund the facility and ensure its ongoing success.
